 Re: Favorite Genre/Band and why? I actually like Nightwish as well, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite. I'm varied when it comes to genres, but very picky with bands.
Regarding nightwish however, I would only listen to the Tarja-era music. Annette isn't bad, but I don't find her voice fitting for the band. I'd rather listen to instrumentals, because the rest of the band is still the same in that sense.
...but yeah, the attraction to Nightwish came from that lovely operatic singing.

Pantera, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Testament, Exodus, Dio, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Finntroll, Amon Amarth, and so many others to list.
Classic rock is good. Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, Clapton, Hendrix, etc.
Even oldies are good. Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Four Tops.
And notable mentions would be around soul, pop (the good kind), and 90's like Michael Jackson, Prince, Dobie Gray (the song "Drift Away" is one of those universal songs anyone can love), Gin Blossoms, Collective Soul, Silverchair, Days of the New, etc.
I'll tell people I'm not fond of country (but Johnny Cash is good), or rap (but i like old school like Public Enemy, Run DMC, old Snoop, etc), or any new pop or rap and I always get crap about how I don't appreciate different forms. Then I point to a list like this and go "I appreciate many forms. How many other people do you know can make a jump from Sacred Reich to Frank Sinatra? I just don't appreciate CRAP." haha xD
