Well some may not know, but alongside my windows I have a separate hard drive setup running linux. Mostly I use it for office/business type purposes. Browsing the internet, typing documents etc. I was wondering if there are any of you Mac or Linux users could help me setup a wine configuration properly to play my games in it. I'm also looking into this for a friends benefit as well. I've searched around the web, but I've not been able to find anything very helpful or explanatory in the least on the subject. I would much appreciate very much it if anyone here can provide even a little bit of help for me.

I didn't try it out too extensively, but while I was able to get the game to run via wine, I never really got it to a playable state. This was over a year ago that I messed around with it though.

That is about the point I've hit also. I'm able to load the game and login to the server, but I can't see anything the graphics are all a blank white screen. I'm able to see the text for the patch notes etc and even that I'm only barely able to make out.

Been quite a while since I tested it as well, but when I did it was playable using the proprietary graphics drivers, I would suggest using them if you are not already as the open source ones are still slow and incomplete.
